Animation Update
For this scene I was having trouble trying to get the drawing to look right in this upward 3/4 view so I searched for reference. Eventually I downloaded a 3D model of a raptor and positioned the camera in the 3D viewer to the angle I wanted and used that as my frame of reference.

Background Comp
I sent DG some notes so we could work out what way we wanted to do the comp for the under water shots. I also did some rough drawings of possible looks/Effects with the characters and assets included.

Background Development
DG has decided that he is not doing the P.O.V shot anymore so I sent him some notes and asked that he connect these shots and make that pan longer so we can show off more of the city. The reason for connecting the shots is because it would look odd or as if the animation was skipping a section.

Background Development
I got some Backgrounds off DG today but the was some problems and certain things we talked about having in certain BG where missing so I made some notes to help speed up the progress.

Animation Update
For the dinosaur roar I used this clip from "The Good Dinosaur" as my main reference. I liked the way the jaw twitches to emphasis the roar and did the same in my animation. I also want to try adding a shaky motion to the camera in comp to exaggerate the scene even more as the Dinosaur roars, intensifying towards the cut.

Animation Update
Over the last 2 weeks I only managed to get a weeks worth of work done because DG unfortunately got delayed again but one of the complex scene's in done and I have a run cycle that will be reused so this will help us save some time. I have also asked DG to bring in his background work on Monday so that we can try see if there is anything that we can reuse that will help save him some time.
(Example that breaks down the the animation process I did for the short.)

Work Experience, Freelance Jobs
While in college as a way to make some money on the side I decided I wanted to do freelance work. I asked some friends in a Business course to let people know I would be able to do logo's and general brand design and from there I started to get some work. The first bit of work I got was designing a logo for a start up call Agri Grow Lights. I began by working with Brian Rielly, the comany founder, on a rough design just to make sure we both were on the same page for how the logo should look.
(Rough Design)
From there I cleaned up and refined the logo design as well as doing some various colour options checking in with Brian all the time to make sure he was happy with the progress.

Background Development
DG sent me some backgrounds today but I felt that they could be fixed up we some small changes so I made some notes and he agreed that the changes where a good idea and did them.

Work Experience, Pieta House
Working with a client
For work experience I worked on and pitched an idea for a web short to Pieta House centered around their bereavement service. For the pitch I created an animatic, character design's and some concepts for the overall design and presented some referenced material to give the client a clear understanding of what to expect.
Working with a team
After pitching my idea it was picked to be developed and I was teamed up with 2 more people. My job was to direct them in making the animated web short and assign them and myself work. To make sure the production ran efficiently, I set up a google drive to share documents and a facebook page for us to communicate on while giving deadlines to each task.
During the production of the short I also made sure to communicate with the client to make sure the work we where producing was what they wanted.

Animation Unpdate
Unfortunately over the last 4 weeks I have only been able to do about 10 seconds of animation as there was another delay with the Backgrounds and I cant do it without them. However, DG finished some of them today so I can start to focus on the animation more as he continues to do the backgrounds

ISCC Interaction
Another event I got involve in this year was the ISCC hackathon event where I worked with a team of creative and technical people in an effort to solve problems that people with IBD face. There was five teams and each team got a subject matter, we got "Career". I had the idea of taking the : symbol and making it the standard icon for IBD to help build awareness and from there we built on the idea. We decided to pitch an idea where the : icon would be made into a pin that had NFC and would be loaded with a link to short, easy to understand, animated video's that...
1. Told a person with IBD how to quickly and easily describe the illness to an employer.
2.Told the employer what to expect from an employee with IBD.
3. Informed H.R of the requirements needed.
The video's would be of little talking poo's to take away the edge of the matter and to try make the content more approachable and shareable with the end goal to be that there is so much awareness that a person with IBD can walk into an interview and be confident the the person sitting across from them would be fully informed just by seeing the pin and no awkward conversations would ensue.
(Photos of event from the ISCC Facebook page)
Another good thing about the event was getting to collaborate and network with people from different creative and technical backgrounds which afforded me the opportunity of a job working with Brian Wilson, co-founder of Wilson creative.
Background Development
Below is an example of some images that I sent DG that I think could be helpful to him for doing the city backgrounds with some notes.
(Akira, Atey Ghailan )
I also suggested that DG look at the film Akira (Video One) for design reference. I think the film has some really amazing background that show the scope and lived in feel of a city.
Then the "Easy" music video (Video Two) has some solid reference because its design was inspired by Akira but it has a similar colour palette to our city BG's.
Video One
Video Two
The last thing I sent him was this video by the Nerdwriter who breaks down the city scene in Ghost in a Shell. He discusses how it expands and draws attention to the viewers perception of space within the BG's and everything in the city is an echo of and emphasis the themes of the movie. I think DG could do something similar with the Evolution theme we have and draw attention to something that helps echo the characters attributes depending on which stage of evolution he is at, for example Human=intelligence (have things in the city the show intelligence and draw attention to them) and so on. This is something I have tried to think ahead with when coming up with the shots so hopefully he can work off and improve upon this idea.

C.V Research
For the C.V I research what content makes a good C.V rather than the design as I feel that is more important to the employer. I also made sure to watch videos where people, who have been in a position hiring, talk about what they would like to see and their experience with reading C.Vs.

Skills Audit, Research and Design
For the skills audit I wanted to design a chart to visually demonstrate my level in each skill. After looking at many different designs, I decided I wanted to keep it simple and do a Bar or Flow chart.
(Examples of the types of chart design I wanted to do)
The picture below is of a chart layout that I really liked done by past pupil, Jack Banks. It is a great design that is still very easily readable and I thought it fit well with what I had in mind, with the 2 toned colours for the different skill types, the use of the icons and textured background
(Skills Audit by Jack Banks)
Again, I made sure that the look of the chart was synonymous with the rest of the brand design. I used the same colour palette and textures. I also created a Z-brush and 3DsMax logo that had the same design style of the adobe software icons to keep the design looking cohesive.
(My Designs)
Background Development/Comp
I've sent DG some images that I though had good under water lighting. We've talked it over and are going for a peaceful, calm but beautiful feel in this scene, similar to the reference.

S.W.O.T Colour Experiment
Once I had a design layout I liked, I began to play around with different ways of incorporating the colours used throughout the rest of the branding. While some of the more graphic designs look interesting I think that they are too in your face and don't match up well enough with the Business card and letterhead.
S.W.O.T Updated Design
For the new caricatured version of myself I decided to take inspiration from the character of 2-Face from the Batman series and do a "2 sides of me" drawing that I think works well with the positive and negatives of a S.w.o.t analysis. I wanted to try have a call back or visual cohesion with my logo so I did a silhouette for the negative side and for the positive I mixed my 2 preferred drawings into one design to get a caricature that I thought worked well with the silhouette.
(My drawings + Screencap from a Batman animated film, noted with pink star)
For the S.W.O.T design I stuck with the one layout and just tried different styles of backgrounds and text boxes to try get a look that matched well with the branding design.
